SOUND SORCERY
HISTORY IN THE MAKING! Quite sensational and charming to experience all in all, this one of kind and never before jazz program at iconic The Bearded Tit at Redfern, Sydney was a great opportunity to capture a room and stage full of gorgeous under-represented talent. Sound Sorcery is a recurring annual initiative that honours jazz and community by merging the art form with artists and audiences who are trans, non-binary, queer, women and BIPOC-Aboriginal artists - something that was missing from the jazz scene in Australia at large.
As the chief photographer for the premier of the series, I was daunted by the mammoth importance of this historic event. But what I didn't anticipate was a room studded with talent, heart, grace, love, empathy, and community. It brought people together, made them fall in love with themselves, others like them, and with the essence of jazz and the arts. This was an incredibly important opportunity for me to capture and I am so glad to have been a part of this, under the mentorship of the one and only Geetha Balakrishnan.
